Spy photographers finally caught Audi’s RS Q5 Sportback on the road. The mule shows a taller grille, deeper intakes, stretched arches, and big oval tips out back. It looks meaner than today’s SQ5 Sportback, and if the rumors stick, this is the one that sits above the SQ5, not beside it.

What the spies actually show
The mule was spotted on and around the Nürburgring. Up front: a taller grille with a horizontal bar and RS-style mesh, plus a bumper that looks more aggressive than the SQ5 Sportback. Out back: a revised spoiler and a huge dual exhaust with oval tips, not the SQ5’s fake vents.
The arches look flared for a wider track. Cabin shots are thin so far. Expect the usual digital cluster and big center screen, plus RS seats and wheel. One mule even showed serious Recaro-style buckets through the glass.
The powertrain rumor: label it as a projection
Carscoops and evo both point at the new RS 5 sedan’s plug-in hybrid hardware: twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6, electric motor, and a roughly 25.9 kWh battery. On the RS 5 sedan, that combo is quoted around 630 hp and about 600+ lb-ft, with a claimed 0–62 mph near 3.6 seconds and electric-only range in the ballpark of 50 miles.
Those numbers are for the RS 5 sedan, not a confirmed RS Q5 spec. The SUV will almost certainly weigh more. Treat the SUV’s power and range as projected until Audi confirms them. evo also notes a left-side charge flap on the mule, a PHEV tell on this platform.
RS vs SQ5: why this matters
SQ5 is the fast-daily ceiling most owners know. RS is the Sport division step: more hardware, more drama, more money. If Audi really drops an RS Q5 Sportback, it goes after cars like the Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the hotter German compact SUVs, not the regular Q5 shopper.
evo also flags possible rear-steer testing and RS sedan–style chassis bits (adaptive dampers, fancy rear differential). Cool if true. Still spy speculation until Ingolstadt says so.
