To get the Audi Spotify app, open the Audi Application Store on the MMI, install Spotify from the Apps tab, then sign in by scanning the QR code or visiting spotify.com/pair. Audi lists the A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A5, Q5 and A6 from model year 2026, with the Q7 and Q9 at their market launch.

Audi says it is the first automaker in the world to build Spotify’s full native app into the car, and Spotify’s announcement says the same. According to Audi’s release, the Audi Spotify app has been offered through the Audi Application Store for supported models since Oct 21, 2026. It runs on the car’s Android Automotive OS without a connected smartphone.
Audi says Spotify serves more than 777 million users worldwide. For owners in Canada and the US, the open question is whether the app has reached their market yet.
Which Audis get the native Spotify app?
Audi says it will initially offer the app for all new PPE and PPC models, meaning cars built on its Premium Platform Electric and Premium Platform Combustion architectures. Audi names the electric A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron, plus the A5, Q5 and A6, all from model year 2026. The Q7 and Audi’s new Q9 get it at their market launch. Spotify adds that availability may vary by vehicle and market.
Audi also says what a compatible app can do depends on the car’s model, equipment and software configuration. If you’re still choosing a car, see our comparisons of the A5 vs BMW 3 Series, the Q5 vs X3 vs GLC and the Q6 e-tron vs Macan Electric vs iX3, plus our A6 e-tron real-world range story.
Is the native Spotify app available in Canada and the US?
Audi says the app is launching in 47 markets, including North and South America. Audi Canada and Audi of America haven’t published local details yet, so check the Audi Application Store in your car.
As of October 2026, Audi of America’s site lists the Audi Application Store under Audi connect PLUS, but that page doesn’t mention Spotify. We also won’t guess how Audi’s global “model year 2026” matches the year on a Canadian or US window sticker, because Audi hasn’t said.
What about my Q4 e-tron, A3 or older Audi?
The Q4 e-tron, Q8 e-tron, A3 and older Audis are not on the list of supported models in Audi’s release. If your car has Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, use that to get Spotify on the screen.
How to install Spotify from the Audi Application Store
Audi’s video overview of the Application Store and its European FAQ give the store steps. Spotify’s announcement covers sign-in.

- Log in to the car as a user with your myAudi account linked, and make sure the car has a data connection.
- Open the Audi Application Store from the Store tile.
- Go to the Apps tab, tap Spotify, then tap Install.
- Open Spotify on the car’s display.
- Sign in by scanning the on-screen QR code with your phone, or visit spotify.com/pair and enter the code shown in the car.
- Check the My applications tab later for installed apps and updates.

Sign in before you pull out, because you can’t sign in while the car is moving. Spotify says you only need your phone to sign in, and you don’t need to pair or tether it to the car for playback.
One caveat: Audi’s video shows a European A6 Sportback e-tron, and menu names may differ by market and software.
Do I need Spotify Premium or a data plan?
You don’t need Premium. Spotify says the app works for both Free and Premium listeners, and Audi says the download is free of cost. You do need a Spotify account, and Audi says costs depend on the market and the Spotify plan you choose.
Data is less clear. Audi says third-party apps use a data connection through the car’s embedded SIM. In Europe, that data comes through a Cubic Telecom plan, and Audi says the first 25 GB are free. Spotify’s announcement has a footnote: “Audi connect package may be required.” It doesn’t say which package.
What works while you drive, and what waits until you park
Audi limits what the center MMI display shows while the car is moving:
- You can’t sign in or change settings.
- Music videos and real-time lyrics are hidden from the center display.
- Related controls are removed from the playback screen.
- Voice control still works, including “Hey Audi” and Spotify DJ.
Passengers get more. Lyrics and video stay on the front passenger display while the car is moving, on equipped cars. With Spotify Jam, passengers scan a QR code to join a shared session and add songs to the queue.

Once you park, the center display catches up. Spotify says that when parked, including while EV charging, drivers can use the main display for full-screen video podcasts, music videos and real-time lyrics.

Jonathan Tarlton, Spotify’s automotive business development lead, said in Spotify’s announcement: “We’ve designed this experience to feel completely natural for every drive. Drivers get instant, hands-free access the moment they sit down, while passengers get a front-row seat to watch videos, follow lyrics, and add to the queue together.”
Native Spotify vs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
If you want your phone’s other apps on the screen too, CarPlay or Android Auto still does the job. If you’d rather get in and drive without connecting a phone, we think the native app is the simpler choice once you’ve signed in.

The difference is where the app runs. The native app runs on the car’s own system. OctaneDaily describes phone projection this way: it “streams a phone app through a simplified driving layout, so the music still lives on the handset.”
Audi says the native app has an interface designed for in-car use, rather than the standardized templates used in previous versions. Android Authority notes that, unlike Android Auto, it works without a connected phone and supports Jam, DJ, music videos, real-time lyrics and hands-free voice controls.
Not all of that is new. OctaneDaily points out that Spotify Jam began coming to Android Auto in 2025.
Spotify not showing up or not working? Quick checks
- Make sure your model is on Audi’s list: an A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A5, Q5 or A6 from model year 2026, or a Q7 or Q9 from its market launch.
- Log in to the car as a user with a linked myAudi account, and make sure the car has a data connection.
- Look for Spotify in the Store’s Apps tab. If it’s already installed, check My applications for an update.
- Sign in with the car stopped. You can’t sign in while it’s moving.
- Spotify says availability may vary by vehicle and market, so the app may not be offered where you live yet.
