Audi’s Planned Georgia Plant: What It Means for SUV Buyers

Audi plans to build its first U.S. plant at the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, Georgia. It intends to invest around $4 billion in a factory with room for up to 200,000 vehicles a year, with production planned for the early 2030s. Volkswagen Group says the decision is still subject to committee approval, and Audi’s releases do not name models.

Updated Oct. 26, 2026. This is a developing story, and we will update it when Volkswagen Group’s committees decide.

Audi also says it intends to create about 4,500 jobs. Georgia’s governor and Audi CEO Gernot Döllner announced the plan on Oct. 24, and Audi published its own release on audi.com the next day. For anyone shopping an Audi SUV today, nothing in the announcement touches the cars on dealer lots.

What is Audi planning in Georgia?

Audi’s release describes a new plant designed around what the company calls its future manufacturing requirements, with a focus on efficiency and flexibility. It would be Audi’s first U.S. production site, and Audi says it wants North America to become a third major pillar of its global production network, alongside Europe and China. Audi also says Germany and Europe stay the industrial backbone of the brand.

The plant is meant to build premium SUVs tailored to North American customers. That is as specific as Audi’s own releases get.

When would the Georgia plant open?

Audi and Georgia describe the schedule differently, so here are both.

Audi puts capacity at up to 200,000 vehicles a year, and Georgia gives 200,000 for full production. Audi has not said how fast output would ramp up.

Where is the Audi plant going?

The site is the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County, in the middle of the state. Georgia’s release says the Development Authority of Peach County developed it with a joint authority covering Houston, Macon-Bibb and Peach counties, and that industrial utilities sit next to the site.

Which Audi SUVs would it build?

Audi has not published a model list. CNBC reports that the plant is expected to start building the Q7, Q8 and Q9 in the early 2030s. CNBC also reports that, according to the automaker, roughly half of what the plant can build would be exported outside the U.S. Treat both as reported, not confirmed. Audi has said nothing about whether the Georgia SUVs would be gas, hybrid or electric.

Is the Georgia plant final?

Not yet. Volkswagen Group’s statement on Oct. 25 says: “The decision to build a new Audi plant in the U.S. is still subject to approval by the relevant committees.” Hans Dieter Pötsch, chairman of Volkswagen AG’s supervisory board, adds that the next steps will go to the responsible corporate bodies for a decision. Audi’s own release presents the plant as a plan and does not mention an approval step.

Does this change anything if you are buying an Audi now?

Nothing in Audi’s announcement mentions current orders or deliveries, and production is not planned to start for years.

Audi has also not said what the plant means for prices. Its release says only that a stronger North American presence will help reduce exposure to trade and currency risks.

Canadian readers should note that Audi’s release talks about North American customers and does not mention Canada by name. Audi has not named the markets a Georgia-built SUV would serve. For today’s Canadian numbers on the Q9, see our Canada price post.

Are any Audis built in America today?

No. Audi calls Georgia its first U.S. production site, and CNBC reports that Audi imports every vehicle it sells in the U.S. from Europe or Mexico.

What we still don’t know

  • Which models Audi officially plans to build there.
  • Whether they will be gas, hybrid or electric.
  • What they will cost, or whether the plant changes pricing at all.
  • Whether any existing Audi plant would build fewer cars as a result.
  • When Volkswagen Group’s committees will decide.

Audi of America president Vito Paladino said more details on U.S. investments and production are coming, according to CNBC.
